What is Psychotherapy
Lee Byung-Wook

Abstract
The human being could not be free from the conflict, but the way that can be out chains as the conflict-based psychic pain was opened just after Freud¡¯s discovery of the Unconscious and its application to psychotherapy by psychodynamic concepts. Although contemporary psychotherapy has been relatively devaluated by remarkable development of psychopharmacology and various social pressures, but its therapeutic value never can be underestimated because the human is undoubtedly the psychological beings and there is the inner part that can not be changed by drugs. And then I briefly summarized to the nature and characteristic of psychotherapy as a theoretical guide for the young psychiatric novices. Theory needs the study and work, and practice needs the experiences. In the field of clinical psychiatry to which day by day a hasty and shallow ideation is overriding, I urge the young psychiatrists to understand the psychotherapeutic process in the viewpoint of the more serious thoughtfulness and concerns about the human being¡¯s psychic conflict and pain. I think that shallow-mindedness in our society should be guided by psychological mindedness.
